A Little History Behind Peanut Butter & Jelly

Peanut butter and jelly is a classic combo and April 2 is the official holiday of the delicious pair.

Peanut butter and jelly was probably a staple and something you associate with your chlildhood, but peanut butter was considered a delicacy in the early 1900s and only served in the finest tea rooms in New York City. Julia Davis Chandler is believed to have referenced the peanut butter and jelly sandwich for the first time and in the 1920s, when the price of peanut butter dropped, it became a popular sandwich among children.

What's the best peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Does it have creamy or chunky peanut butter? Strawberry, grape, or maybe even like blackberry jelly? What kind of bread is it on? Toasted? What's the peanut butter to jelly ratio?

Enjoy that PB&J today!
