Darius Rucker named Official Ambassador for South Carolina Tourism

South Carolina native and Grammy-award winner Darius Rucker will be named as an Official Ambassador for South Carolina Tourism in 2020. From his constant support for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, to writing about his humble homegrown roots in Charleston in the 2010 album Charleston, SC, 1966 - It's no doubt that Rucker is an avid fan of the Palmetto State.

Partnering with the Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism, Rucker will be promoting the state as an preferred travel destination at various tourism events including the RBC Heritage golf tournament in April 2020 at Hilton Head.

“We’re thrilled with the opportunity to work with a well-known Southern voice to promote South Carolina,” said Duane Parrish, the department's director. “Darius Rucker is a homegrown star with a genuine love of his state. His story and talent are attractions themselves. We are looking forward to working with him this year!”

The partnership was announced at the annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Travel on Monday, February 17th in Myrtle Beach. As part of this title, Darius Rucker will also be playing 30 second commercials promoting South Carolina during his 2020 concerts as well as appearing on an array of marketing material for the state’s DiSCover campaign including digital and print advertising, television commercials, social media posts, website stories and as the cover story for the state’s official vacation guide for 2020.

“Whether he’s singing about his hometown or talking about his life experiences, you can tell Darius Rucker is proud of where he’s from,” Parrish said. “Our partnership is a natural fit."
