SWAT shot and killed Mark Capps on Thursday after he brandished a firearm while officers executed an arrest warrant. Capps was a Grammy-winning recording engineer with deep ties to the Nashville music community. He was 54.

Nashville police told CBS affiliate NewsChannel 5 that Capps was wanted for aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping. His wife and adult stepdaughter had filed charges against him earlier in the day.

According to the complaint, Capps had threatened both of them with a gun around 3 a.m. local time and kept doing so until just before sunrise, when he fell asleep.

The two fled the home and went to the police, who issued arrest warrants Thursday afternoon. Police spokesperson Don Aaron said he "came to the door with a gun" when SWAT officers arrived at his home. He was fatally shot. The entrance door had a video camera, according to police.

Capps was the son of Grand Ole Opry guitarist Jimmy Capps. The Recording Academy gave Jimmy Sturr & His Orchestra Best Polka Album Grammys in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
