Rob Thomas On Why He Chose Brad Paisley For A Country Collaboration

Rob Thomas is famously known via the success of Matchbox Twenty. He stopped by The Bobby Bones Show virtually to share some stories as well as share what he's been up to on his own lately.

Recently, Thomas released his first-ever Christmas project called Something About Christmas Time. The record featured a collaboration with Brad Paisley and he shared why Paisley was chosen for that particular song. Thomas noted that he wrote a "country banger." And because the country was still in lockdown from the pandemic when he made this album, he needed to reach into his phone contacts for any possible collaborations. Because of the way Paisley sings and plays on guitar, Thomas said it was a no brainer to ask him to collaborate on this song. He admitted that he manifested Paisley saying yes, and obviously that ended up happening. Thomas attributes Paisley likely being bored in lockdown for the reason he actually agreed to do the collaboration.

For the holidays, Thomas is set to play the big Thanksgiving parade, as well as the Rockefeller tree-lighting. He confessed that he has a high excitement level for these events, but what's difficult is that he'd be all hyped up and then everything happens so quickly. He also noted that for the Thanksgiving parade, everyone has to lip-sync, no one gets to play live. After his performance, it's just a regular parade and he stays on the float and waves while music plays in the background.

Being part of Matchbox Twenty, their debut album Yourself or Someone Like You turned 25-years-old this year. For Thomas though, he and his wife have been together 22 years so, both don't feel like that long of times for him. Whenever they play a show, Thomas noted that they're not allowed to leave without playing their song "Push."
