Megan Moroney shared the spoke about the sweet inspiration behind a Cloud 9 ballad during a live-recorded podcast event.
Moroney recently caught up with Southern Living Editor-in-Chief Sid Evans at the first-ever Biscuits & Jam Live event in New York City. The award-winning country star spoke about âBeautiful Things,â one of 16 tracks from her Cloud 9 era, which serves as a compassionate message to her 2-year-old niece. Moroney told Evans, âI wrote that song for my niece [who] has no idea what that song means and definitely doesn't need [it] yet, but [when] she was born and I looked at her and I was like âOh my gosh.â I never want her to feel sadness, but at some point in her life [sheâs] gonna feel excluded. And then at some point in her life maybe she'll get her heart broken, which is what the second verse is about. I want her to know that even though those feelings feel very realâŚit's not the end of the world. The hope of writing that song was that if and when she needs it, she has it.â
The Emo Cowgirl performed âBeautiful Thingsâ live for the first time in September, months before Cloud 9âs February release. Moroney took the stage at Credit One Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina, and unveiled the story behind the song before she played it for the first time. She told the audience, âthis song is just a great reminder that weâre all going through something, so just be nice to each other.â
âBeautiful Thingsâ appears on Cloud 9 with the title track, â6 Months Later,â âI Only Miss Youâ with Ed Sheeran, âBells & Whistlesâ with Kacey Musgraves, âWish I Didnât,â âWho Hurt You?,â and more. Moroney previously said the album was âwritten about honest, personal experiences, but these songs were written by the strongest, most confident version of myself Iâve ever been. My feet feel firmly planted in my artistry and it was fun to play around sonically, while still sticking to my roots of what my fans and I love. Cloud 9 is a state of mind, and I have no doubt this will be the best chapter yet.â
