LeAnn Rimes is reflecting on her legendary country music career and looking ahead to what’s next — including her excitement about turning 40 — in a new interview on Monday morning (August 1).
Rimes, who has been performing since she was 5 years old, appeared on a new CBS Mornings segment. She spoke about going up in the spotlight after skyrocketing to success as a teenager. She was the youngest and first country artist to win Best New Artist at the GRAMMY Awards in 1997, CBS noted as it showed the dress Rimes wore that night on display at the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles, California.
“The one thing about me is I have a lot of grit, and I have a lot of resilience. If I wasn’t resilient, I wouldn’t be here,” Rimes shared during the interview. “There’s been many (times) in my life that I could’ve easily chosen a different way out or just not come back from where I was. But I have such a fight. That rebellion that has gotten me in trouble many times has also saved my life. …(My music) has a lot of power. It makes me cry. I think that’s part of my gift, is being able to help people feel. I know for me it’s, the things I can’t say, I sing.”
Rimes added later in the interview that vulnerability is “our greatest superpower.” When asked about her upcoming 40th birthday on August 28, she gushed that she’s looking forward to her next chapter: “I’ve gone through a lot. I’ve lived a lot of life in 40 years. I’m ready for a calmer time.”
Rimes is getting ready to release her highly-anticipated new album god’s work, which is set to release on September 16. The 12-track album “is beyond special to me and we have carefully curated every step of this process, like never before,” Rimes previously said. She opted to keep each letter lowercased because “If we’re arguing about why the ‘g’ is or isn’t capitalized, we’re missing the whole point. It’s so important for us to focus on the messages, rather than the nuances.”
