How To Relax Even When You're Busy

I am all about self-care because I believe that you can't be your best self or serve others well if you're empty. I've made it a priority to take time to relax and do things that I enjoy, even when I'm crazy busy. It isn't always easy, though.

In the midst of my busiest days, doing something for me isn't necessarily at the top of my list. You've been there, right? There was a point in college where I was just exhausted all the time. I was focused on all my classes, served as a senior editor and writing articles for that publication, involved in my sorority in a leadership role, participating in a couple organizations, and working. I just had a lot on my plate and was so run down. It was during that time that I knew I had to take some time for myself.

Here are some things that helped me learn how to fit self-care and relaxation into a busy schedule.

1. Figure out how you're spending your time.

A lot of us waste our time without even thinking about it. I know that I spend too much time just scrolling through Instagram, so when I realized that I was wasting time in the mornings just scrolling through social media, I decided to not even touch my phone until later in the morning and instead, use that time to meditate and get in a quick workout. Find out where you're wasting time and use that time to do something you enjoy!

2. Say no

This was a BIG one for me, because I will try to do everything. You've got to learn to say no sometimes and that is okay!

3. Set aside time for a quick nap

I love a good nap! This might be the thing I miss most about college. A quick, 20 or 30 minute nap will make you feel refreshed and ready for the rest of the day!

4. Make a schedule

I love a good schedule and when I have a plan, I stick to it! I use the calendar on my phone to schedule everything like when I'm working, meditating, working out, reading, and blogging. If you schedule time to do something for yourself, you'll be more likely to stick to it!
