Hugging A Pole (In Downtown Macon)

My amazingly talented and sweet radio brother, Shawty Slim, did me the honor of escorting me around his neighborhood of Downtown Macon, and took me to The Hummingbird (The Bird) after our dinner at Piedmont Brewery.

At Piedmont, we shared the Georgia Fritters which are Pulled Pork with Carolina BBQ sauce, Slim had a Frito Pie, and I had the Brisket Bahn Mi. We shared a flight of beers that included the Gold Dust Woman, The White Rabbit, Porch Song, and Sunshine Dream. Ordering flights of beers is a great way to find out which one is your favorite. Now, mind you, I was not a beer drinker before walking into the Piedmont last month for the very first-time, but I walked out craving their Midnight Rider beer. OMG! It’s SOOOO GOOOD! So, of course, I ordered 2 short pours of Midnight Rider to toast with my radio brother who has helped me out so much in my short time here in Macon. He inspires me so much to be better at connecting on-air. He is so extremely natural and genuine, and we get each other’s crazy creative energy.

After dinner, I finally got to go to The Bird, and I guess I was feeling so good that I decided to hug the pole next to me at the bar. I had vodka water at The Bird, and Slim introduced me to several of his friends. I’ve noticed so much comradery in Macon. People seem to genuinely take interest in saying hello and goodbye. Southern hospitality is still alive and well in Macon. Thank you so much for that.
