Open Streets Macon Returning This October

Open Streets Macon is returning this October.

This free and public event is set for Oct. 20 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. During that time, 1.5 miles of downtown Macon streets will be closed off to vehicle traffic.

Open Streets Macon aims to turn busy roadways into spaces that are friendly to walkers, bicyclists, and others. Organizers want the movement to bring awareness to alternative ways of living and commuting that are safer and healthier.

This fall, Open Streets Macon will connect areas of Mercer University, Mercer Village, and nearby neighborhoods with activities like walking, biking, and more. All are welcome to this "car-free celebration of public space."

Open Streets is actually a global movement, with more than 200 cities participating worldwide.

You can learn how to get involved, sponsor/donate, and get full details on Open Streets Macon. Organizers say they're looking for partners to provide activities like yoga, basketball, and more.
